They’re hunting rabbits. Actually, it’s just Dinah, the farmcollie, hunting rabbits. Tiny Lamb’s following close because that’s just what she does. She follows Dinah everywhere unless one of the other dogs distracts her and takes over lamb-sitting duty.
Dinah’s our best small pest hunter. She particular excels at hunting down moles, mice, voles, and rabbits that have been nibbling in the garden. She’s good at tracking, and she stays focused on the task, even with a two-week-old lamb underfoot.
Dinah definitely found a trail, and she began to pull ahead. It took Tiny a while to figure out how to maneuver through the underbrush, she had a hard time keeping up. (That white smudge in the brush is Tiny.)
Wait up!
Slow down!
I kept an eye on them, just in case Dinah got too distracted and forgot Tiny was with her. After a while, Dinah passed by the old barn, and Tiny settled down to rest a while with Bebe, the other female farmcollie.
She was pretty tired from chasing after Dinah.
Ready to fall asleep . . .
Or not.
Ahhhh, it really makes me miss having little lambs. What a cute little fluffball! Nice dogs too. It’s good to have one that specializes in pest control!
Rural Writer – lambs are what I love most about spring . . . and chicks, ducklings, goslings, puppies . . . sigh, no puppies this year. What kind of sheep did you keep?
